Posted by Ruby in Library News on 08-04-2011

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the Dighton Grade School from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on April, 11th, 12th, and 13th,   in the gym.

On Thursday, April 14th “Green Eggs and Ham” free will donation supper sponsored by the school will be held that night from 5:15 to 6:00 p.m. Then from 6:05 until 7:55 p.m., the Book Fair will be one of the five rotations at Read Night. This is a great opportunity for your family to shop together and participate in fun activities.  Please remember that the Book Fair will only be open during that time on Thursday.

On Friday, April 15th school will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and the Book Fair will only be available from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m.

From easy readers, to picture books, to best sellers and more, the Scholastic Book Fair connects kids with books they want to read. The special event is hosted by Friends of the Lane County Library.

We invite you to support the “Give the Gift of Reading” Program at the Book Fair. The teachers have identified books they would love to have for their classroom. Students may purchase these books at the Fair and each book will include a gift donation bookplate from the giving student.

Again the year we will participate in “One for Books!”. At the Fair we will be collecting all loose change and use the funds to purchase books for our teacher’s off of their wish list. Scholastic will match monetary donations raised with a donation of up to one million books to three non-profit organizations dedicated to helping kids and families in need. They include: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., Kids in Need Foundation, and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

Thank your for encouraging your child to read. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at the Book Fair. Proceeds from the Fair will help the Lane County Library and Dighton Grade School Library. See you at the Fair!

We had several patrons interested in the Sony Reader which led to many discussions.  Total of 94 people walked through our doors that day with 99 items being checked out.  Adults and children used the computer during the day and also our wireless was in use.
